Wyoming’s $80M Bet: Laramie County Slot Targets Colorado Cash, Jobs, and Tax Windfall

(AsiaGameHub) –   Wyoming Downs targets Colorado-bound traffic with a new historic horse racing venue. The 58,000-square-foot site will rise east of Interstate 25 at Exit 2. Opening is slated for spring 2027. Around 600,000 residents sit within a 30-minute drive. Many are Colorado Front Range visitors. The project aims to pull new dollars across the border. It seeks to strengthen the local economy and diversify tax revenue.

The venue will host about 600 historic horse racing machines. Simulcast wagering will be available. Dining areas and a large sports-viewing space are included. Groathouse Construction will manage the build. Extra land is reserved for future hotel and entertainment plans.

Wyoming Downs envisions more than 150 permanent jobs once operational. The wider plan spans $180 million across builds and renovations. Laramie County could gain roughly $3 million annually in tax revenue. HHR machines generated $2.49 billion wagered in 2024. They returned nearly $25 million to towns in 2025.

This push coincides with growing HHR activity in Wyoming. The legal structure ties outcomes to prior races. It keeps the product aligned with pari-mutuel racing. The new site will compete with Horse Palace at Swan Ranch. It offers more dining and a larger screen wall. Future expansion includes Evanston and renovations in Cheyenne and Casper.
